Get the most out of your Sensis fridge freezer

Looking after your Sensis fridge or fridge freezer is easy – here’s what you need to do.

1. Clean your fridge regularly

Family life is busy, we know, but try to deep-clean your fridge every three to six months.

Switch off and unplug your fridge first. Then carefully remove shelves, racks and drawers and wash in warm, soapy water, letting them air dry if you can.

Sensis’s ‘no frost’ tech means you’ll never have to manually defrost your fridge freezer before you clean.

2. Check your fridge’s door seals

Your fridge’s seals help keep your food fresh and safe to eat, but must be free of grease and mould to do their job.

Check your fridge seals for damage then wipe gently with a clean wet cloth before drying. Replace seals that are brittle or spilt.

Sticky hands are part of family life so it’s also a good idea to wipe down fridge doors and handles as you go along.

3. Keep the right food on the right shelf

Always store the right food in the right part of your fridge:

  • Top shelf – cooked and ready-to-eat foods, including left-overs

  • Lower/middle shelves – dairy foods

  • Bottom shelf – wrapped raw meat and fish

Fresh veg, salad and fruit belong in the crisper drawer. Food with natural preservatives (juices, jams, sauces) are safe in the fridge door.

4. Don’t overload your fridge freezer

Most fridge freezers work best when they’re two thirds full, as the air can circulate evenly inside.

Over-fill your fridge freezer and it will have to work harder to keep food cool. But leave it too empty and you’ll be paying to chill empty space.

Planning your family’s meals and weekly shopping will ensure you only buy the food you have space to properly store.

5. Declutter your fridge as you go along

Finally, a tidy fridge is a happy fridge so keep yours clutter-free and stay on top of ‘use by’ dates.

Not only will this help you reduce food waste and make the most of leftovers. It will also be quicker to put away your big weekly shop and find what you need when feeding your family at the end of a busy day.
