How to get the most out of your Sensis washing machine

Follow these simple steps to get the most from your Sensis washing machine or washer dryer.

1. Never overload your washing machine

It’s tempting, but if you cram the drum too full the laundry detergent and water can’t get your clothes really clean. You could also damage your washing machine.

When loading, you should be able to fit your hand on top of your laundry and then turn it 90°. Split larger loads if necessary.

2. Choose the laundry programme you need

Family life doesn’t always run smoothly. Sometimes you need clean, dry kit fast, sometimes you don’t.

Whatever laundry cycle you choose, check fabric care labels first to avoid damaging or shrinking your family’s clothes. Remember to pre-treat any stains.

Sensis’s handy Eco-Logic system reduces water and electricity use by detecting lighter loads. Running your Sensis washing machine off-peak by using the Delay Timer option can also help your family stay on top of your energy bills, as you can delay the start of the washing cycle by 1 to 23 hours.

3. Use the right amount of laundry detergent

Adding too much laundry detergent is as bad as adding too little as it can affect the rinsing cycle, clogging your washing machine with soap scum. Your laundry may also feel stiff or sticky.

So always follow your laundry detergent’s dosing guidelines, keeping load size and water hardness in mind.

4. Let your washing machine ‘breathe’ when not in use

Leaving your empty washing machine’s door and detergent drawer open helps prevent mildew and mould by airing the seals and drum.

It’s also a good idea to unload clean laundry as soon as you can. The longer it sits in the drum, the smellier it gets due to the moisture left behind.

5. Deep clean your washing machine

Finally, giving your washing machine some TLC with a regular service-level deep clean will remove any laundry detergent residue, mould and limescale. This will keep it smelling fresh and help it work better for longer.

Choose one of the many deep clean products on the market. Always follow the instructions on the pack.
